Poilievre's Conservatives: What's Their Problem with Ukraine?

Conservative MP and the only declared candidate for the party’s leadership, has vowed that Canada will always stand with Ukraine as the world marks the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion. But what do Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives have against Ukraine? There have been disturbing ways in which Poilievre and his party have attacked Ukraine and its democratically elected government.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
went on the offensive again on Wednesday, accusing Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre of playing politics with the war in Ukraine. Trudeau said Poilievre’s comments about the conflict are “deeply irresponsible” and “unworthy of a leader.”
A bill to implement
the modernized Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement passed the House of Commons on Wednesday with the support of all parties except the Conservatives. The bill now goes to the Senate for approval.
